GARNETT — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded a nearly $4,800 emergency food and shelter grant to Anderson County. The money will be given to area social and service groups, said ECKAN CEO Richard Jackson. Because of the economic woes, the county qualified for the grant this year and can be used to help families who are unemployed, low on food or having trouble paying bills, he said. There will be a meeting Friday morning at the Garnett ECKAN center on how to share the funds. Groups that wish to request money must apply in writing to the ECKAN central office in Ottawa by Thursday morning at 9.
