TOPEKA — Democratic governor candidate Tom Holland said Wednesday he faces long odds in taking on Republican U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback. But Holland said he’s had experience in upsetting powerful Republicans – long-time incumbents state Rep. Ralph Tanner in 2002 and long-time Sen. Roger Pine in 2008. Holland said he’ll be travelling across the state with his pro-jobs and pro-education message. Two other Democrats, Herb West of Paola and Marty Mork of Wichita, have also filed but Holland is seen as the front-runner. A Baldwin City business owner, Holland was state representative for northern Franklin and southern Douglas counties and is now state senator for Douglas and Jefferson counties.
