EDGERTON — BNSF Railway announced this morning that it has selected T.J. Lambrecht Construction and Walsh Construction to be the primary civil contractor to build its new intermodal facility in Edgerton. The Kansas Department of Transportation also announced that it has finalized an agreement for a $35 million grant to BNSF. The railroad said it will start the planning work this year and begin building next year. The facility will cover about 443 acres. Ultimately there will be an intermodal center and a logistics park with warehouses and distribution centers. The proposal has been the target of a federal lawsuit by environmentalists and a citizens’ group in neighboring Gardner. KDOT said the project will generate an estimated 660 construction jobs. KDOT also said when the complex is at full operation, it will create about 8,700 jobs.
