LANE — A fire destroyed a home in the 700 block of South Kansas Avenue in Lane early this morning. No one was hurt in the fire. The fire was reported about 4:30 this morning and firefighters from four rural fire departments responded to fight the fire. Firefighters from the Pottawatomie, Cutler, Ohio and Lincoln-Ottawa-Harrison fire departments tried to save the house but were unable since the house was engulfed in fire when they arrived. Pottawatomie assistant fire chief James Savage said the cause of the fire is still under investigation but that it had started on the north end of the house and worked its way throughout. The home owner, Bob Ritter, was out of town. The Lane house was a second house for Ritter. He said he was only there on days he works at an area glass plant. Ritter said he didn’t think he would need any assistance since he had plenty of support locally from friends and neighbors and possibly the Rotary Club.
