OTTAWA — Ottawa students might have been out of school Oct. 22nd but they had plenty of work to do on what was “Make a Difference Day.” Ottawa Volunteer Center’s Lisa Rivers said out of 174 volunteers, 126 were Ottawa High School students and 34 were from Ottawa Middle School. Among the projects: Nine members of the Rotary and Optimists clubs did a large painting project for the OCAC preschool located in the Carnegie Cultural Center basement. The Middle School Kay Club collected an SUV full of food for food pantries. Students also provided activities for residents of ORV, Vintage Park and Franklin County Daycare, and cleaned and organized the CTEC preschool playground at the high school, baked hundreds of cookies for Meals on Wheels, collected 15 bags of toiletries for domestic violence victims, cleaned and played with animals at Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, and painted 24 historic street markers throughout Ottawa.
