PAOLA — Miami County officials are looking at their options for the overcrowded Miami County jail. Commissioners and Sheriff Frank Kelly have decided they want to get the public involved in coming up with options. Kelly told the Miami County Republic that he plans to form a committee made up of about 14 community members to come up with ideas and map out a plan for the future of the jail. Commissioners agree with the plan to include a community group because it’s likely that Miami County voters could be asked to help fund new options for the jail. At one time, Miami County commissioners met with commissioners from Franklin, Anderson and Linn counties about building a regional jail at Osawatomie State Hospital but that idea was dropped.
