OTTAWA — At his attorney’s request, the murder trial of John Balbirnie has been postponed until next April. Balbirnie’s trial was supposed to start next month but his attorney waived his right for a speedy trial and asked for a delay. The 44-year-old Balbirnie, 44, and Brandon Ellsmore, 23, are charged with stabbing Paul Nicholson of Ottawa to death July 28. Earlier this month, a judge refused a request by county attorney Heather Jones to try the two together. Ellsmore’s trial is scheduled to begin next month.
