GARNETT — The city of Garnett has received state tourism marketing awards. The city received awards recently from the Travel Industry Association of Kansas including the top award for social media — social media refers to a variety of Internet-based ways to promote local tourism including Facebook and Twitter — and honorable mention for small-budget Web sites. Garnett tourism board member Susan Wettstein said she was pleased by the awards because the city won despite going head to head with large cities’ tourism groups including those of Kansas City, Kan.; Topeka and Emporia.
