OSAWATOMIE — Two residents of Osawatomie Life Care Center reached the century mark this month. Nellie McCoy has lived most of her life in Paola. She worked for a Paola garment plant for several years. A couple of 100th birthday parties were held for her in Paola and Osawatomie. Her Paola party had more than 200 people. She told the Osawatomie Journal that the reason for her longevity is her faith in God, hard work and taking care of herself. Except for his service in World War II, David Sweezer lived in Osawatomie all his life. He worked most of his life for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He told the Journal his secret to long life is eat dessert before the meal and don’t drink coffee.
