OTTAWA — Ottawa police patrolled on an overtime basis as part of the special state holiday enforcement patrols during the Thanksgiving week. Ottawa Police Lt. Adam Weingartner said the extra patrols seek to save lives and prevent injuries and encourage safer driving decisions. During the week, Ottawa officers wrote 41 safety belt citations, one child restraint citations, five speeding tickets, and 17 other citations. There were no DUI arrests during the campaign. The department’s overtime will be paid by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
