OSAWATOMIE–It seems the Osawatomie City Council doesn’t care much for unions. About a year ago, the City Council voted to opt out of the Public Employer-Employee Relations Act. At a recent meeting, council member John Farley said he wanted to add a resolution to the agenda calling for the city to opt back into the union. By a vote of 5-2 the council denied the request, and this will allow the union contract with city workers to end on January 1. A large group of city employees attended the council meeting, and then left when the council made clear it would not discuss the matter any further.
