GARNETT–The First Baptist Church of Garnett is one of many baptist churches in the United States that is participating in the Penny Project. The churches have been challenged to raise 14 million pennies, each penny representing a child growing up in poverty throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. So far, the Garnett Baptist Church has collected and given to ECKAN over 54 dollars to help out with the Food Pantry. They have started collecting the second 5000 pennies. As of Dec. 8, the total number of pennies collected in the U.S. was about 4,300,000.
