OTTAWA — Franklin County is making an emergency replacement of a heating unit that heats part of the Ottawa Family Physicians clinic at the county annex. A heat exchanger in the unit was cracked, causing carbon monoxide to seep into a lab area and an examination room in the clinic last week, said county administrator Lisa Johnson’s. The unit was turned off. A replacement heat exchanger could be ordered at a little less than half the price of a new heating unit, she said. However, the catch is that it will take 30 days for the part to reach Ottawa and to make the clinic leave the area unheated for that long was unacceptable, she said. Commissioners agreed to her decision to buy a new heating unit and install it immediately.
