GYPSUM — A 17-year-old mentally handicapped boy drove a Southeast of Saline school bus into a wall at the school’s football stadium Monday morning. The Salina Journal reported that the boy caused about $100,000 in damage to three school district vehicles and the stadium’s concession stand. The Saline County Sheriff’s office said the boy left his rural Saline County home and walked until he found a school bus that apparently had the keys in it parked at the school, which is near Gypsum. After he started the bus, he drove it into two parked school cars and into a wall of the concession stand at the football stadium. The boy did not appear to have been injured, but he was taken to Salina Regional Health Center for examination. The Journal reported there will probably not be any charges filed. Justin Henry, former Ottawa High School principal, is the Southeast of Saline superintendent.
