HAYS — A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper was shot Saturday during a traffic stop in Hays. The Hays Daily News reported the trooper, who wasn’t identified, was listed in stable condition with a shoulder wound. A suspect identified as 45-year-old Ruben Herrera Escobedo was being held at the Ellis County Jail in Hays. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
