LANE — A fire destroyed a trailer home and spread to a car and pickup near Lane Monday afternoon. Pottawatomie Township assistant fire chief James Savage said that Dean and Karla Willcut and his family lost everthing in the fire, which happened near Utah and Finney roads northwest of Lane. The fire occurred when no one was home and was reported by the Willcuts’ teenager daughter returning from school, he said. The trailer was at the end of a minimum maintenance road and a long drive and by the time firefighters arrived, the trailer was gone, Savage said. Rural departments from LOH, Cutler and Ohio townships also responded to the fire. Because the trailer was destroyed, it will be difficult to pinpoint the cause of the fire, although a wood stove might be the cause, he said. The estimate of total losses could be more than $125,000.
