GARNETT–Developments for a new elementary school in Garnett are underway. USD 365 School Board members, officials and engineers have agreed to the location but they are disagreeing with the land owners about the cost of the land. The land, which is located north of Garnett’s Ball Complex, north of Park Road and along U.S. 59, is owned by Donald and Susan Diebolt. The school board last week filed a petition for eminent domain, in which the state has the right to take private property to use for public use. The court will hear the request on February 14th. According to Superintendent Don Blome, the land is the best choice to build a new school. He said that the new school will house 425-450 students plus 50-60 staff members. Construction of the school is expected to be completed before the 2012-2013 school year.
