OTTAWA — Two urban mountain lion mysteries – one in Lawrence and the other near Kansas City in Clay County, Mo. The Lawrence Journal-World reported police officers found the carcass of a large wildcat along a western Lawrence street Sunday night. However, when city workers were called to pick up the dead kitty, it disappeared before it could be identified. There have been reports of a mountain lion lurking on the west fringes of Lawrence. Kansas City KMBC Channel 9 TV highlighted a photo taken by a Missouri woman of a large wildcat near Excelsior Springs, Mo. Although cougars have been confirmed near Kansas City, Missouri wildlife biologists say this cat is probably a large bobcat. Although there’s no confirmation, some rural residents tell KOFO that they believe a mountain lion may be prowling areas west of Ottawa. Who knows?
