WASHINGTON — Last year was a record for U.S. farm exports. The U.S. exported nearly $116 billion in farm products, or $1 billion more than the record set in 2008, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said. The global recovery continues and demand remains strong for U.S. commodities, especially corn and soybeans, he said. And last year, China became the top U.S. customer of farm products last year for the first time, he said. Canada slipped to the number-two list as U.S. ag importer. Vilsack said because of the weak U.S. dollar, he expects this year’s exports to top last year.
