Although patrons of the Ottawa School district gave the Board a number of ideas for saving money without closing Eisenhower Elementary School, apparently none of them saved enough money on their own. last night the Board voted 7-0 to close Eisenhower at the end of this school year. Before the vote, Board member Brandon Jones addressed some ideas provided to him. (Play Audio)
The Board also heard pleas to give the issue more time, and not to close the school so quickly. however, citing certain laws that require notification of teachers who will lose their jobs. The Board said the issue couldn’t wait. All told, closing Eisenhower will save about half a million dollars.
