HAWAII —  Ottawa resident Paul Hemmerla is usually doing the educating at Kaua’i Community College in Hawaii, but after an 8.9 earthquake struck Japan he quickly learned about the worries of a Tsunami.  Once the ground settled off the coast of Japan the U.S. National Weather Service issued Tsunami Warnings for several countries on the Pacific Rim.  Hemmerla and his daughter were evacuated from where they were staying in Hawaii to Kaua’i Community College which was on higher ground.  Hemmerla wanted to make sure everyone knew that he and his daughter were not hurt and that there was very little damage at his location.  Click to listen to Paul Hemmerla.
