TOPEKA–Senators in Kansas voted to save the Arts Commission. On Wednesday, the Senate rejected Governor Sam Brownback’s plan to convert the commission to a private nonprofit group. The conversion would have saved the state nearly $575,000 a year. The plan would have still given the new nonprofit group $200,000 through the State Historical Society. Brownback’s Administration said that the nonprofit group wouldn’t have lost the federal funds and could have made up the decline by the state and private fundraising.
