OTTAWA — County noxious weed supervisor Rick Sawin said Wednesday he was surprised the small number of bids he received for weed-killing chemicals. Only three companies submitted, half the usual number of bidders seeking to sell herbicides to the county, he said. The commissioners didn’t accept any of the bids and tabled the matter for three weeks. Sawin said he’ll talk to the usual bidders to find out why they didn’t bid.
He said he thinks worries over the volatile price of oil discouraged bids. The county uses the chemicals for its own weed-killing efforts but also sells herbicides to the public.
