PAOLA — Mark Schmidt has retired as Miami County undersheriff. He has been with the department since 1984 and has been undersheriff since 1995. Sgt. Wayne Minckley will serve as the undersheriff. Schmidt of Louisburg is a 1980 graduate of the Johnson County Police Academy and a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.
