BALDWIN CITY — Baker University’s radio and television students have received seven awards in the Kansas Association of Broadcasters’s college broadcast competition, including first place in the best deejay personality category. Baker was the only private university to win awards. Baker students Michael Wissmann, Lenexa, won first for best radio DJ personality and Calvin Pearce, Lawrence, won second. Winning honorable mention were Cate Richards, Baldwin City, and Genevieve Des Marteau, Lawrence. Ashley Payne, Independence, Mo., won second in hard news reporting for her coverage of the Maple Leaf Festival. Baker’s radio station KNBU-FM 89.7 won second for radio promotion ads and TV station KNBU-TV won second for best taped newscast.
