PAOLA — Paola Boy Scout Troop 100 is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. The Miami County Republic reported that former Paola Scout and leader Bill Griffin talked to Scouts about the troop. Among the most memorable – the flood of 1951. The Scouts’ bus was stopped by flood waters on U.S. 169 during a camping trip to what is now the Miami County State Lake. Scouts had to leave the bus and cross a bridge that was under water by two feet. Another memorable event — a late night visit from a bear during one campout. Scouting has changed and there are more activities today, he said. The troop is associated with the Paola First Presbyterian Church.
