OTTAWA–The murder trial of John Balbirnie of Ottawa, charged with the fatal stabbing of Paul Nicholson, heard some graphic testimony. Brandon Ellsmore…also charged in the case…. told the court that after drinking at a bar, he and others went to a house owned by Phillip Wallace. Wallace and Nicholson started fighting over food. Ellsmore said he tried to intervene and Nicholson punched him in the face. Ellsmore said that at one point, Nicholson charged him, and that’s when Ellsmore picked up a kitchen knife off a computer stand and stabbed Nicholson in the back.
