Garnett is losing a very familiar face, when it comes to promoting the City. Community Development director, Susan Wettstein, will retire at the end of September, after 37 years in various positions with the City of Garnett. She has been Community Development Director since 2014 and the engine that promoted the city’s efforts for its own events. She helped lobby for City Commission approval of increases to the Transient Guest Tax. Those funds helped form the basis of a City Promotional Budget for advertising and marketing efforts of local events. she also built the city’s internet and social media profiles as a part of General Information and Marketing.
Wettstein was integral in the development of the Cornstock Concert on the Hill, beginning in 2005, the Lake Garnett Grand Prix revival and numerous other events. Wettstein says she loves serving the community and instilling pride in Garnett.
