The push to get a Safe Haven Baby Box installed in Ottawa is ramping up. The box is a safe way for mothers that have no other options, to safely, legally and anonymously, give up their baby in a controlled environment. Ottawa Fire Department Fire Prevention Coordinator Mike Wilson describes the box:

The box would be installed at the fire station on 2nd Street. Right now, the effort has received about $5,400 in donations, however, it takes about $14,000 to purchase the box and have it installed. Ottawa has a chance to be the first city in Kansas with suich a box.
