Today, members of the Ottawa High School “SAFE” Program will attend the “SAFE” Safety Conference in Manhattan. SAFE stands for Seatbelts Are For Everyone. The program is growing around the state. Ottawa High senior, Olivia Runnels became involved with the SAFE program when she was a freshman and has been on the State SAFE Student Board for two years. Earlier this year, she spoke with one of the SAFE Program coordinators, Johnny Lang, and talked about her experience and how she would like to see the program improve:

This year, there are SAFE programs in 123 schools in Kansas and in 54 different counties. The program doesn’t just focus on seat belts but many different areas of safe driving, such as, bad weather, distracted driving, drunk driving, motorcycle safety, older drivers and many more.
