Friday night, November 10, another earthquake in the Bennington, Kansas area. This one stronger than the week before. The U.S. Geological Survey called Friday evening’s quake significant, as it registered 4.0 on the Richter Scale. It struck just before 6:20. Residents in Concordia, Manhattan, Wichita, Hutchinson and many points in between, reported feeling the quake. Just a week before, a magnitude 3.4 quake struck Bennington, followed by a 2.9 magnitude a few minutes later.

A quake can cause property damage at 4.0; however, no damage is being reported. Earthquakes have become more frequent in Kansas over the past few years, particularly in south central Kansas, where there are water injection wells that inject oil field waste into the rock. Also, there are two fault lines, the Nemaha Ridge and Humboldt faults that run through the state.
