An injury accident on 169 Highway south of Garnett near Greeley knocked out power to most of northeast Anderson County, including the city of Garnett. A passenger car and a semi truck collided. The truck went off the road to the right, took out a power pole and electrical substation. Power was out in that area as well as parts of Franklin County. Crews from Evergy, Anderson County and the city of Gardner worked feverishly to restore power. As of yesterday morning,January 8th, Garnett was back online running on alternate generation. Power was finally completely restored about 10:00 yesterday morning.

It’s not known what caused the accident, those involved or the injuries they sustained. The highway was closed from Greeley to Park Avenue for a period of time so emergency crews could work and clean up the scene.

Anderson County Emergency Management officials want to thank the lineman for all the work they did throughout the night in the cold rainy conditions to get the pole and lines back up and energy restored for everyone.
