Around $16 million was recovered for insurance policyholders in the Sunflower state as a result of disputes with their insurance companies in 2023. That is the largest single-year recovery in the history of the department. Funds considered “recovered” are calculated when staff aids an individual in need of support during an insurance claim process.
Money recovered in Franklin County totaled about $3,000, but residents in Douglas County recovered over $116,000, while Miami County saw over $127,000, Osage County with $29,000, Anderson County with just over $1,400 and Linn County only $225. Thirty percent of consumer complaints focused on health or dental plans, 26% of complaints focused on auto insurance.
