The deaths of 10 great danes and rescue of 10 other dogs on a rural Miami County property January 24th may be related to a Topeka case involving the deaths of 18 animals and rescue of 73 others on January 30. On a rural property north of Louisburg, 10 great danes were found dead in a 30-by-60 outbuilding. Eight great danes were also found alive in the outbuilding, along with another great dane found alive in a garage and a shepherd mix found alive inside the residence. All the rescued dogs required immediate medical attention.
The nine surviving great danes and one shepherd mix were taken to Daisy’s Dane Sanctuary based in Pleasant Hill. Officials say they are on the road to recovery, but face a long road. No arrests have been made, but there are suspects in the case.
