As nice as it has been the past couple weeks, even better and warmer weather is right around the corner. With that, comes the risk of severe storms. Wind, rain, hail, tornadoes, all that stuff. The National Weather Service has scheduled several Storm Spotter Training Seminars around the area and state. The first being right here in Ottawa. The seminar will be held March 5th at the Ottawa Memorial Auditorium, at 7:00. The next session closest to us will be in Lawrence on March 18th at the Lawrence Public Library, also at 7:00.

What are Spotter Classes? The National Weather Service Office in Topeka works together with county emergency managers to offer Storm Spotter to prepare for severe weather season. Spotters provide critical information during severe weather events that aid in warning operations at the National Weather Service. A National Weather Service Meteorologist will teach thunderstorm development and structure, thunderstorm safety, and what, when, and how to report information.
