The statewide tornado drill will be held in Kansas on March 6th. The National Weather Service says it will be part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week which will run from March 4th through the 8th. The test is meant to check everyone’s preparedness for real, life threatening severe weather events like tornadoes, flash floods and damaging winds. Local officials are encouraged to sound their warning sirens to start the drill. During the drill, the NOAA’s All Hazards Weather Radio will also be tuned on the signal at the start of the drill.

The weather service recommends people treat it as if it was a real emergency by sheltering in place and talking about sheltering options with family and friends. All schools in the state of Kansas will be participating in the drill on March 6th.
