Did you know that the city of Osawatomie has several level 2 EV charging stations available throughout the Osawatomie community? These dual sided stations were made available through a $5.2 million grant the city of Osawatomie shared with seven other entities as part of a Rural Sustainability Initiative with Metropolitan Energy Center and the Federal Department of Energy. Currently there are 11 charging stations and more will be added as part of the 6th Street Construction Project. Once completed, Osawatomie will have 24 individual chargers available to the public. The highest concentration of chargers per capita in the entire state of Kansas.

Former City Manager, Mike Scanlon, says the city is at the front end of Rural Economic Development when it comes to EV chargers and with the building of the Panasonic battery plant in DeSoto, he believes the community is perfectly placed to leverage the benefits of new technology and can become a national leader in rural sustainability.
