A very special honor for an Ottawa police officer. Master Patrol Officer Larabe Alexander has been selected to represent the Ottawa Police Department, along with the Kansas Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics of Kansas, in the Torch Run final leg at the 2025 Special Olympic World Games in Italy in 2025.

Alexander has been involved in the Torch Run and Special Olympics since 2012 when he attended the final leg of the state games in Wichita, ending at the stadium full of Special Olympics Kansas athletes cheering him on. He returned the next day to present awards to the athletes and as he put the first award on an athlete that finished fourth, he received a huge hug from her, and he was hooked, and has been involved with the Law Enforcement Torch Run ever since.

Since he has attended several international conferences, Alexander describes some local fundraisers:

If you would like to contribute, there will be a special “tip-a-cop” fundraiser at Applebee’s Tuesday, April 9th, where Ottawa Police will be working with Applebee’s staff for donations to Kansas Special Olympics. Also, 10% of all sales from 4:00 to 9:00 Tuesday, will be donated to the cause.
