The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Carthage, Missouri Police Department on a homicide case. Thursday, June 13th, Carthage Police were called to the 600 block of Main in Carthage on a report of a deceased person inside a camper. Officers located 24-year-old Kenia Lopez of Carthage, deceased in that camper. During their investigation, they learned the death had occurred on Metcalf Road in rural Louisburg. The body and the camper were then driven to Carthage. Carthage Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office worked together and after investigating, arrested 23-year-old Gavina McJunkins Macias of Carthage, on charges of abandonment of a corpse and after further investigation, he was charged with 2nd degree murder.
He is being held in the Jasper County Jail on a one million dollar bond. The sheriff’s department says no further information will be released at this time, pending an ongoing investigation. They do ask anyone with any information about the case to contact them immediately.
