The Ottawa Police Department has announced that Captain J.W. Hawkins has graduated from the prestigious Department of Homeland Security Leadership Academy. The two week residential course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center was attended by executives from state and local law enforcement agencies across the United States. A wide array of leadership training, police executive functions and many other topics important to policing were taught. The course is sponsored by the DHS, and is invitation-only.
Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner says he is thankful to Captain Hawkins for accepting the invitation to attend such a high caliber training program and bring back information he learned and share with Ottawa’s staff. Weingartner adds that he looks forward to more department staff having future opportunities to attend. Weingartner says building partnerships across local, state, and federal partners around the country is a benefit to all in law enforcement.
