The Kansas Department of Transportation is holding an open house on the final design plans for K-68 in Miami County. Final designs will be presented for public review and comment during the open house. The K-68 expansion project in Miami County includes over 6.6 miles of K-68 from US 169 to Spring Valley Road and would widen the road to a four lane expressway at an estimated cost of $48 million. Fatal accidents on US. 169 dramatically decreased following its four-lane expansion, but K-68 has taken its place during the past 20 years with multiple fatal accidents occurring along the heavily traveled two-lane highway.
it is one of several announced Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program Projects in the construction pipeline for KDOT in southeast Kansas. It is also related to the K-68 T-Works Projects . That project improved Somerset Road east on the south side of K-68 and was completed this past spring. The open house will be held tomorrow, September 10th, at Louisburg Middle School from 4:30 to 6:30.
