A tragic fire in Colony Thursday night. The Colony Community Church was completely destroyed in a fire that started Thursday afternoon, December 26th. When firefighters arrived on scene they found flames shooting through the roof of the structure and despite crews attempting to extinguish the fire the building appears to be a total loss. The congregation of the church met Friday night in the Crest USD 479 parking lot just south of the church for a prayer service. Pastor Alex Cochran asking everyone to pray for their vibrant church community. The congregation also met Sunday morning at 9:00 at the Colony Christian Church to pray and have a short meeting to discuss where they go from here. No word on the outcome of that meeting.
The Anderson County Fire and Emergency Management Department says firefighters remained on scene all night and into the afternoon and evening hours on Friday. Not much is known about where the fire started or the cause. More information will be released following an investigation.
