The Emergency Cold Shelter in Ottawa is expected to be very busy this week and they need your help. Homeless Coalition Representative, Brett Staneslow has put out a call for volunteers to help run the shelter. The shelter is open on nights where the temperature dips below 20 degrees and, as it looks now, that will begin tonight and extend well into next week. Staneslow says with the wind and extreme wind chills expected, frostbite is a serious concern. He says the last thing anyone wants is for someone to be severely injured by the cold or die from the cold. Volunteers are needed to stay at the shelter overnight from 7:00 in the evening until 7:00 the next morning. Two people are needed for each night.

If you would like to volunteer your time to help those in great need of protection from the cold, go to the Franklin County Coalition to End Homelessness facebook page to fill out the necessary forms, or contact Brett Staneslow directly on his facebook, messenger, or call him at 785-418-2694. We can’t stress the need for assistance enough as we endure this very bitter cold stretch. The shelter is at the First Baptist Church in the 400 block of Hickory.
