Ottawa Fire Captain Dustin Donovan spends quite a bit of time networking and meeting with other firefighters across the country to gain knowledge of their techniques and how to better keep Ottawa safe. He shares that knowledge with his colleagues in Ottawa. Some of that networking take a good deal of funding. A major conference for leaders in the firefighter corp is the Symposium in the Sun, presented by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section in Clearwater, Florida.

Captain Donavan was awarded the Chief Robert T. Bettenhausen Scholarship Award at the Symposium. It pays for costs associated with attending the event and assist chief officers from departments which lack the financial resources to offer professional development to their leaders. It is the second year in a row, Donovan has received a scholarship at the Symposium. Last year he was awarded the Emerging Leader Scholarship. Congratulations Captain Donovan
