The Wellsville police are investigating a possible threat overheard by a parent. Just before 4:00 Wednesday, March 27th, a parent heard a conversation between elementary students where the phrase “bringing a gun to school” was used. The Wellsville police were immediately contacted and are investigating the matter in conjunction with USD 289 officials. In a media release, the school district says the information obtained, so far, does not indicate a credible threat or situation exists. They are asking that anyone with any information on the matter to contact police. Out of an abundance of caution, additional security was near the Wellsville Elementary School yesterday morning.

The Wellsville Police Department is emphasizing, that despite social media posts, there was not a firearm brought onto school property and there is no threat to the students. School officials say that if additional information develops, they will share it. They add that in today’s society, everyone is concerned about potential violence in schools and any perceived threat or rumor is taken very seriously. Student health and safety is their top priority.
