In her Weekly Legislative Update, Kansas Senator Caryn Tyson says there were many pieces of legislation passed out of both houses during the session and many have been signed into law by Governor Kelly; however, Kelly has vetoed 12 bills, so far. Tyson says that number could increase as the Governor hasn’t responded to the Mega Tax Relief Bill or other legislation. The legislation begins their Override Session on Friday, April 26th.

In the meantime, Governor Kelly has issued a public plea for Kansans to contact their representatives to demand a debate and vote on Medicaid expansion. The Senate will vote on Friday, April 26th, on whether to pull the bill out of committee and set up a full debate on the bill. Kelly’s office says Republican leadership knows there are enough votes for Medicaid expansion to pass and their tactics to keep it in committee are an indicator of that. Republicans say the bill would cost too much and worry that many able-body Kansans would choose not to work and instead go on Medicaid.
