In her weekly newsletter, Kansas Senator Caryn Tyson says the second tax relief package they sent to Governor Kelly had huge bipartisan support in both Houses. It was a compromise of what she asked for and what they wanted. Tyson says the only real difference is the tax brackets. The top bracket would be 5.57% instead of 5.55% and the other bracket would be 5.2% instead of 5.15% It is around a $3 million fiscal note from the Governor’s proposed legislation.

Kelly says she will veto the bill and call a Special Session for the Legislature to craft a new bill. Tyson says a Special Session would cost taxpayers over $84,000 a day, just to settle a slight difference. She says it makes no sense for the Governor to not sign it and let the tax bill become law.
